Press Kit: 藤間蘭翔 | Ranshou Fujima

Dancer, choreographer, and director of RANSHOU and RANSHOU Archives & Collection.

She specializes in the classical repertoire of Edo-period kabuki-buyō, with a particular focus on onnagata. She began studying classical dance at age four and, at the age of nine, entered Daichi, led by Fujiko Fujima / 藤間藤子, before continuing her apprenticeship under Rankei Fujima / 藤間蘭景. Her multidisciplinary practice spans performance, choreography, directing, stage production, film, archival practice, and historical research. Her work has also been presented at the Tokyo Gendai art fair vernissage at the Yokohama Museum of Art.

In recent years, she has directed Contemporary Onnagata, a project that examines the meaning of onnagata in the present through her own experience and memory.

She has also worked to collect and preserve historical materials related to dance, including archives of ukiyo-e. In 2025, RANSHOU Archives & Collection, which she directs, joined Google Arts & Culture as a partner institution. In addition to presenting works and archival materials, the collection has published a historical essay on kabuki-buyō and onnagata.

Ranshou Fujima holds shihan certification from the Fujima Kan’emon school and graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Her awards include the New Talent Award from the Dance Critics Society of Japan in 2019.

舞踊家・振付師。RANSHOU及びRANSHOU Archives & Collection代表。

江戸期の古典・歌舞伎舞踊、特に女形を得意演目とする。4歳から古典舞踊をはじめ、9歳で藤間藤子が当主をつとめる「代地」に入門し、以後、藤間蘭景に師事。舞踊や振付のほか、演出、舞台プロデュース、映像制作、アーカイヴ、歴史研究にわたる横断的な実践を行っている。その成果は横浜美術館で開催されたアートフェア「Tokyo Gendai」のヴェルニサージュなどでも披露されている。

近年は、現代における女形のあり方を自身の体験や記憶を通して考察する「現代女形考」を主宰。浮世絵のアーカイヴなど舞踊に関する歴史資料の収集・保全にもつとめ、2025年には、自身が代表をつとめるRANSHOU Archives & Collectionが、Google Arts & Cultureのパートナー機関として参加。歴史的な作品や資料の公開のほか、「歌舞伎舞踊・女形」の歴史エッセイを公開している。

藤間流勘右衛門派師範。東京藝術大学音楽学部邦楽科卒業。主な受賞歴に「舞踊批評家協会新人賞」（2019）
